I’d like to highlight my business. Jus-Tickets and our new 24-hour Complimentary Event Posting Service or CEPS as we call it.
Jus-tickets has been running for almost 3 years now. Because of the Black community, it has been a huge success…..BUT we can do more.
On Feb 4th this year I invested all our profits in upgrading the site to move the site closer to what our clients fed back as desirable. Just over a month later the UK went into lockdown. Lockdown meant 19 days of no income and 2 months of refunds to ticketholders.
Irrespective of those setbacks I’ve steadily continue to improve the site and I’m delighted to tell you that revenues on the site are currently only 46% below the previous year. Remember 2019 was 300% better than in 2018. So we are still very pleased.
What the last 3 years have taught me is this…if we want strong black businesses, that will one day mean our children can walk into world-class black-owned businesses when job hunting, with no fear of racism, we first need to build those businesses…..invest in those businesses.
My main competitor Eventbrite started life with a $50m investment, I started with £5K. When I went to banks for a business bank account, not a loan….all the traditional banks said no. I carried on only with the help of those members of our community who saw the potential of what I’m trying to do.
Building strong Black Businesses required patience and investment. So today I’m seeking community investment. The cost to you ZERO. The next time you are planning an event give us a try. The next time you receive an invite to an event….suggest the promoter use us. That’s it….that’s the investment we need to close the gap between us and other sites.
Let me be clear……your support has already benefitted our community. I’ve been able to give back the various charities and support small fundraising efforts, so I know the model works.
I’m fully aware that we don’t have all the bells and whistles other ticketing sites offer, but I’m also aware that we offer better value and that our pro-active marketing gets bums on seats.
