The New Age of Empire: In conversation with Kehinde Andrews

days hours remaining
Academic and writer Kehinde Andrews will be joining us to talk about his new book, The New Age of Empire.

As the first Black Studies professor in the UK, and the pioneer of the first Black Studies programme in Europe at Birmingham City University, Andrews’ previous books include Back to Black and Resisting Racism. In his new book, he deftly destroys the myth that the West was founded on the three revolutions of science, industry and politics - but was instead built on the foundation stones of genocide, slavery and colonialism.

A vital book that offers no easy answers to critical questions, The New Age of Empire presents a groundbreaking new blueprint for challenging age-old systems. Andrews argues that the "West is rich because the Rest is poor", and that reforming a racist global order calls for radical solutions. At this livestreamed event Andrews will talk to Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik about how the legacy of empire affects race relations today, and answer your questions in real time.
