I remember meeting Januário Garcia many years ago. He was committed to documenting forgotten black lives and unselfish in helping people achieve this objective. He talked about social injustices in Brazil relating race long before it was fashionable to do so. My condolences to his loved ones. Januário was president of the Research Institute of Black Cultures and of the Brazilian Network of Iconography and Documentation of African Mothers in Brazil.
